Carole Holt Honoured as 2019-20 ACAC North Women’s Soccer Coach of the Year

Edmonton, AB (Oct. 24, 2019) – The Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) is pleased to announce that Carole Holt from NAIT has been selected as the 2019-20 ACAC North women's soccer Coach of the Year. This is the third year in a row that Carole has captured this award.

Carole coached the NAIT Ooks to an 11-1 regular-season record, and 1st place finish in the ACAC North division. NAIT set an ACAC record for goals scored in a season (78), while only giving up 4 all season long.  The Ooks had shutouts in 9 of their 12 matches.

This is the 8th season that Carol has been the head coach for the Ooks. Carole began coaching in 1994 and has worked extensively with elite junior and senior players aged 15-25 years. She also has previous coaching experience at the collegiate and university level with the Concordia University College Thunder (1994-95) and as an assistant coach with the University of Alberta Pandas (1996 & 2006-09). Additionally, Carole was the head coach of the Edmonton Angels Soccer Club (2000-02) and a part of numerous Provincial teams (both as a Head Coach and as an Assistant Coach) since 1994. Carole holds a National B License Award with the Canadian Soccer Association.

As a player, Carole represented Alberta at various levels (U16, U18, U23) and was identified as a player for the Canadian Women's Soccer Team in 1995. She played for the Grant MacEwan Griffins (1994) and the University of Alberta Pandas (1997-99), winning CIS gold in 1997 and CIS Silver in 2000. She also played for the Edmonton Angels Soccer Club (Alberta Major Soccer League) for 10 years, winning the Jubilee Shield (Club National Championship) in 1995, 1999 and 2000.

NAIT Athletics Manager Jordan Richey had this to say about the 4-time winner of the ACAC North women's soccer Coach of the Year award.

"What Carole has accomplished, not only this year but during her time at NAIT is simply remarkable. She has a way of getting the best efforts from her players by treating them with respect and through clear communication. Carole believes not only in recruiting great soccer players but by bringing in even better people to continue the team's positive and winning culture."

Carole and her NAIT Ooks will be competing this weekend at the 2019 ACAC women's soccer championship hosted by NAIT at Emerald Hills Pavilion in Sherwood Park. The Ooks earned a bye to Saturday's semi-final at 11 am where they will face the winner of the quarter-final match between the King's Eagles and the SAIT Trojans. Complete schedule and results can be found on the ACAC website.

This prestigious award was presented to Carole at the 2019 ACAC Soccer Championship banquet held on October 24th at NAIT.
