EDMONTON, AB (Oct. 26, 2017) – The Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) is pleased to announce Dean Northover of the SAIT Trojans has been selected as the 2017-18 ACAC Men's Soccer Player of the Year. The award is sponsored by the Alberta Soccer Associaion and provides a student-athlete scholarship.
Northover, a midfielder, scored six goals and added two assists this season to help his Trojans to an 8-1-1 record — good enough for first place in the ACAC's South Division. His ability to slow the game down amidst the high-paced action played a huge role in his team earning a bye to the Conference Championship semifinal.
"He's like a hair dryer in a bathtub filled with water — simply electrifying," said Trojans head coach, Grant Stevens. "Not only does he play the game well, he thinks the game well and that's the difference between him and a lot of other players. . . He's one of the smallest kids on the field, but he has the biggest heart."
Dean Northover, a Calgary product, is in his first year at SAIT, studying Graphic Communications and Print Technology.
This prestigious award was presented to Northover at the 2017 ACAC Men's Soccer Championship held on Oct. 26 at NAIT.
