Spiking Anticipation: Unveiling the 2023-2024 ACAC Men's Volleyball Schedule & Championships

EDMONTON, AB - The stage is set, and anticipation fills the air as the schedule for the highly anticipated 2023-2024 ACAC Men's Volleyball season is officially released. The match-ups are established, promising thrilling battles and intense competition throughout the season. Fans and athletes alike eagerly await the opening matches, which will commence on a spine-chilling Friday, October 13th.


ACAC CHAMPIONSHIP:

It is with great pleasure that the Olds Broncos have been awarded the honor of hosting the 2024 ACAC Men's Volleyball Championship. The championship event will take place at the esteemed Ralph Klein Centre in Olds, Alberta from February 22nd to 24th, 2024. The Broncos' men's volleyball team, fresh off their first ACAC championship appearance since 1978, is poised for a strong showing. Led by ACAC South All-Conference outside hitter Matheus Franca, who was recently named the Broncos' Male Athlete of the Year, the team looks to make a triumphant return to the championship stage.


2022 RECAP:

Recapping last year's notable events, the Briercrest Clippers emerged victorious at the ACAC championship hosted by the Keyano Huskies in Fort McMurray. In an impressive four-set match, the Clippers defeated the two-time conference champions, the Red Deer Kings. The underdog status did not hinder the Clippers' journey as they triumphed over both number one seeds from each division, securing their spot in the Nationals. Notably, the team also showcased their prowess at the 2023 CCAA Men's Volleyball National Championship, earning a bronze medal.

In the highly-anticipated ACAC gold medal match between the top-seeded Red Deer Kings and the fourth-seeded Briercrest Clippers, the Clippers emerged victorious with a 3-1 triumph. The sets were 31-29, 32-30, 18-25, 25-23. Karym led the charge for the Clippers with an impressive 33 kills, while Noah Carlson of Red Deer showcased his skill with 15 kills. JJ Graham displayed exceptional defensive prowess with 20 digs for the Kings, and Brady Watchel had 23 for Briercrest. The match was a true showcase of high-level volleyball and left spectators on the edge of their seats until the final point.

The Keyano Huskies, fueled by their home advantage, fought fiercely and claimed the bronze medal, edging out the formidable NAIT Ooks in a three-set sweep.

Individual achievements were also celebrated as Jose Caceres of the Ambrose Lions was recognized as the CCAA Coach of the Year. Karym Coleman of the Clippers, who displayed an exceptional championship performance, earned a spot on the First Team Championship All-Stars, with Jackson Anderson receiving Second Team honors. Mason Gorski of the TKU Eagles, Maddux Greves of the Red Deer Kings, and Karym Coleman of the Briercrest Clippers were also named CCAA All-Canadians.
