Curling Craze: Revealing the 2023-2024 Regionals & Championship Lineup
EDMONTON, AB - The stage is set, and the thrill builds as the 2023-2024 ACAC Curling regionals schedule is unveiled. With the SAIT Trojans taking on the prestigious role of hosting the 2024 ACAC Curling Championships, the upcoming season promises excitement and intense competition. Athletes from various institutions will embark on a journey through two crucial tournaments, all leading to the highly anticipated championships at the Airdrie Curling Club.
ACAC CHAMPIONSHIP:
The countdown begins for an exhilarating three-day championship, set to take place from February 23-25 at the Airdrie Curling Club hosted by the SAIT Trojans. Athletes and teams are bracing for intense battles in men’s, women’s, and mixed competitions. Building on the success of last year’s CCAA National Championship, the ACAC's curling talents are primed to deliver remarkable performances in this highly anticipated provincial championship. Prepare to be captivated by a display of curling excellence as players compete fiercely for the coveted title.
2022 RECAP:
In the men's division, Concordia Thunder claimed the gold medal by defeating Augustana Vikings in the final, while NAIT Ooks secured the bronze medal by defeating the SAIT Trojans.
In the women's division, Concordia Thunder earned the gold medal by defeating Augustana Vikings in the final, and SAIT Trojans won the bronze medal in a close game against Red Deer Queens.
In the mixed division, the Lakeland Rustlers earned the gold medal by defeating the NAIT Ooks, and Red Deer secured the bronze medal by defeating the Portage Voyageurs.
Augustana Vikings Women's team claimed the national championship title, with Concordia Thunder earning a bronze national medal. On the men's side, SAIT Trojans secured a silver national medal.
Notable individual achievements included Darby-Anne Swanson of Augustana Vikings being named to the First Team All-Stars. Payton Sonnenberg and Rachel Jost of the Concordia Thunder, along with Sean Borkovic of the NAIT Ooks, were recognized as Second Team All-Stars.
James McCabe of the Concordia Thunder received the Exemplary Leadership Award, while Taina Smiley of the Concordia Thunder and Shannon Kleibrink were both honored as Curling Canada Coaches of the Year.

CCAA CHAMPIONSHIP:
The Aitken University Centre at the University of New Brunswick and the Capital Winter Club will set the stage for an exciting curling extravaganza. From March 12-16, 2024, the venues will host both the 2024 U SPORTS/Curling Canada University Championships and the 2024 Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA)/Curling Canada Curling Championships. Following this thrilling showcase of skill and competitive spirit, the excitement will continue with the 2024 Canadian Mixed Doubles Curling Championship, taking place from March 17-22. Athletes from across the country will converge for these prestigious championships, promising unforgettable moments on the ice.
LOOKING AHEAD:
The 2023-2024 ACAC Badminton season kicks off with an exciting first tournament on November 19th at the Ralph King Athletic Gym, hosted by the experienced Concordia Thunder, who held last year's championship. Anticipate a remarkable display of artistry and competition as the Thunder set the stage for an exceptional opening tournament. In the new year, the SAIT Trojans will take the reins and host the second tournament on January 21st in Calgary, promising another thrilling competition. The season concludes with the final tournament, as teams return to the north and the King's Eagles close out the regular season with a flourish.
