Delaney Ross Honored as 2021 ACAC Golf Female Rookie of the Year

(OCTOBER 4, 2021) – The Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) is pleased to announce Delaney Ross of Portage College has been selected as the 2021 ACAC Female Rookie of the Year. 

First year Portage College athlete Delaney Ross was named the ACAC Rookie of the Year after leading the Portage College women's golf team to a second-place finish at the 2021 ACAC Championship Tournament hosted by Alberta Springs. The silver medal was the first team golf medal in Voyageurs Golf history, which also secured a third-place finish in the mixed event when combined with the men's results. Ross' bronze medal for her third-place finish in the individual event is also a historic first. "We are so proud of our team and coaches", said Stephen Anthony the Athletics and Recreation Manager for the Voyageurs. "This award is well deserved as Delaney worked hard to get here in practices and game play". 

Ross consistent play combined with the third-place finish allowed her to be named to the ACAC All Conference Team. Her success at this year's ACAC Events has made her be the First Portage College Voyageur Golfer to qualify for CCAA Nationals which will be in Windsor Ontario hosted by St Clair College and will be played at the Ambassador Golf Club.

"I couldn't be prouder of Delaney, as a rookie and never playing in a tournament format prior to the ACAC Season" beamed Head Coach Lorin Tkachuk. "She showed that she could stay calm under pressure, help her fellow competitors and still score low. Delaney demonstrated a strong understanding of the rules and how to mitigate risk. Her course management played a vital role in her success the season. As her coach, I am excited for what golf has in store for Delaney as she develops and hones her skills on and off the course."

Delaney, Ross is from Meadow Lake, SK and is enrolled in the Early Learning & Child Care Program (ELCC) - 1stYear Voyageur Golfer.
