Corey Chorneyko and Tyler Morrison Named 2016-17 Men’s Hockey Top Scholastic Achievers

Edmonton, AB (March 30, 2017) – The Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) is proud to announce both Corey Chorneyko of the NAIT Ooks and Tyler Morrison of the MacEwan Griffins as the 2016-17 ACAC men's hockey top scholastic achievers.

Corey, who hails from Calgary, AB, obtained a 4.0 in the Personal Fitness Trainer program at NAIT during the first semester. The Ooks captain is currently in his third year of eligibility.

Corey helped lead the NAIT Ooks to an ACAC silver medal this season and was selected to the 2nd ACAC All-Conference team.

"Corey is very deserving of this award," said NAIT full-time assistant coach Shawn Belle. "His work ethic is second to none on the team. He is often the first one on the ice and last one to leave at practice and he applies this same drive and determination with his studies"

Tyler, who hails from Sherwood Park, AB, obtained a 4.0 in the Bachelor of Commerce program at MacEwan University during the first semester. The Griffins defenseman is currently in his first year of eligibility.

Tyler helped lead the Griffins to an ACAC gold medal this season and was named the ACAC men's hockey rookie of the year, as well as selected to the ACAC 1st team All-Conference.

"Being a committed student-athlete is an enormous task," said MacEwan University Head Coach Bram Stephen "what makes Tyler's accomplishment so impressive to me is that despite being a mature student and being away from academic life for a number of years, he was able to balance his time effectively to be outstanding on the ice and in the classroom."
