Hannah Leggatt Honoured as 2016-17 ACAC Women’s Indoor Track Runner of the Year

EDMONTON, AB (March 8, 2017) – The Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) is pleased to announce Hannah Leggatt of the MacEwan University Griffins has been selected as the 2016-17 ACAC Women's Indoor Track Runner of the Year.

Leggatt won three individual gold medals (women's 1000 metres, 1500m and 3000m) at the ACAC Championships in Lethbridge over the weekend, adding an individual silver (women's 600m) and helping MacEwan capture gold in the women's 4x400m relay.

"We knew she could possibly win all of the events, but we needed to race them in a way that she could perform well in each one," said coach Drew Carver, noting the second-year Arts student-athlete from Edmonton was well off her top times as she was dealing with an illness. "We had to race a little bit more strategically, not going all out. Her talent shone through in leading us to the championship." 

Leggatt secured 40 of MacEwan's 93 points to help them repeat as ACAC women's team champions.

This prestigious award was presented to Leggatt at the 2017 ACAC Indoor Track Championship held on March 3-4 at Lethbridge College.
