Rachel McKenzie Honoured as the 2016-17 ACAC Cross Country Female Runner of the Year

Edmonton, November 2nd, 2016 – The Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference is pleased to announce that Rachel McKenzie of the Lethbridge College Kodiaks Women's cross country team, has been selected as the 2016-17 ACAC female cross country runner of the Year.

The 4th year Kodiaks student athlete is enrolled in the College Nursing program. It's the first-ever ACAC medal for McKenzie, who has won every conference race she has competed in this season. Her time of 20:20 was five seconds ahead of the second place finisher, Jordanna Cota of Red Deer College. McKenzie is the first Kodiaks woman to win the ACAC gold medal since Purity Kandie earned the win in 2009. Her run also helped lead the Kodiaks to a silver medal finish.

Coach Bertil Johansson says about Rachel's impact on the program, "I am so thrilled to have been involved over these last 4 years seeing the growth of a true champion. She thrives on competition and finds ways to outperform herself at times. She has been such a positive example to her teammates and program over the years! "

"In three years of watching Rachel balance the life of a competitive collegiate runner and a high achieving student - the evolution has come full circle. She is one of the most committed student athletes I have ever had the privilege of working with. To see her achieve gold and represent the Kodiaks as she has is amazing!," says Todd Caughlin. Manager of Kodiaks Athletics.

Congratulations Rachel on an incredible season, individual honor and good luck at national championships.
