2023 ACAC Women's Volleyball Players of the Year

North Player of the Year presented by Volleyball Alberta: Jenay Varga

The Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) is pleased to announce Jenay Varga of the Lakeland Rustlers has been selected as the 2022-23 ACAC Women’s Volleyball Player of the Year. 

Jenay was a key contributor to the Rustlers Volleyball Program helping the team secure a 17 - 1 record amassing 56 wins and only three losses during the regular season. The Rustler’s record earned the team top spot in the North Division and the best record in women’s volleyball in the ACAC. During the regular season she led all women’s volleyball student athletes in the ACAC with 229 kills, and a 4.09 kill per set percentage.   

Varga also was the top player in serve aces with 45 and a 0.80 aces per set average. Jenay's impressive stat line shows the all-around dominant player that she has become at Lakeland.

“Jenay is a soft spoken, quiet leader, who leads by example. She is the humblest elite athlete that I have ever come into contact with”, commented Head Coach Austin Dyer “Jenay is a true teammate always putting her teammates first. Her work ethic is hard to match, which has allowed her to succeed in all areas of our program. I'm extremely proud of the person and athlete that Jenay has become.”

Varga is from Muenster, Saskatchewan and currently in her third year of eligibility. She is working towards her Bachelor of General Studies degree.

This prestigious award will be recognized at the 2023 ACAC Women’s Volleyball Championship hosted by Red Deer Polytechnic in Red Deer, AB.

 

South Player of the Year presented by Volleyball Alberta: Jamie Brown

The Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) is pleased to announce Jamie Brown of the Lethbridge College Kodiaks has been selected as the 2022-23 ACAC Women’s Volleyball South Division Player of the Year. 

Brown is a two-time Kodiaks Athlete of the Week. She collected 216 kills through the year while averaging 3.18 kills/set which put her in the top five of the conference in both categories for the year. She also averaged 2.74 digs/set and helped lead her team to this year's championships. 

“She has worked extremely hard throughout her years as a Kodiak and I am proud of her knowing all of the time she has put in is paying of with recognition like this in her final year” says Kodiaks head coach Anna Schwark. “She has exemplified what it is to be an excellent student athlete and I am just thankful I have had the privilege to watch her grow into the leader she is today.”

“What an incredible way to wrap up a career for Jamie!” says Todd Caughlin, Kodiaks Athletics Manager. “Kodiaks Athletics couldn’t be more proud of what Jamie has accomplished and the impact she has left on the program!”

Brown will graduate from the Exercise Science program at Lethbridge College and comes from Fort Macleod, AB.
