Trojans take five-set thriller over Broncos

For the second straight night, the SAIT Trojans outlasted the Olds College Broncos in five sets (27-29, 25-19, 25-17, 24-26, 15-13) to sweep the weekend home-and-home series between the two sides.

The Trojans (7-6) got strong performances from Taryn Corkery (18 kills, 17 digs, two blocks) and LeeAnne Arnott (16 kills, 17 digs, two blocks, two aces), while Emileigh Inglis was also impactful with nine kills and 13 digs.

For Olds College (0-13), Milan Schapowal posted a team-high 14 kills and three digs, while Tabitha Martin contributed nine kills, 11 digs and two blocks, and Sarah Merkosky added six kills and a team-high 17 digs.

SAIT setter Grace Florence posted 46 assists, while Lexi Lafreniere countered with 30 for the Broncos; meanwhile, the liberos also had busy nights, with SAIT's Erica Bartole leading all players with 20 digs and Olds College's Kendyl Lengyel adding 15 of her own. 

Next up, SAIT will begin a home-and-home with the Red Deer Polytechnic Queens on Friday at 6 p.m. in Calgary, while the Broncos will head to Saskatchewan for a pair of matches with the Briercrest College Clippers, with first serve on Friday set for 5 p.m. MST.
