Women's Volleyball Huskies top Ooks to remain unbeaten on home court
The Keyano Huskies Women's Volleyball team dispatched the NAIT Ooks in striaght sets (25-17, 25-17, 25-13) Friday night at the Syncrude Sport and Wellness Centre in Fort McMurray, Alta.
Tyneille Neufeld led the offensive charge with 11 kills for the Huskies while Rebecca Maxwell had another strong all-around performance with 20 assists, six kills, six digs, and three aces.
"The level of play from both both sides wasn't the best at times, but when we needed to turn it up we did, especially in the middle and end parts of all the sets," Keyano Huskies Head Coach Hayden Nichol said. "We were playing our best volleyball and hopefully tomorrow we can have some stronger starts."
After a slow start in the first set, the Huskies picked things up and we're quickly ahead two sets to none in the match. With the Huskies up big in the third set, the Ooks valiantly rallied to force an elongation of the match, but could only push so much before the Huskies regain control.
Anika Dyck led the Ooks with 12 kills. Hannah Zurakowski had 10 digs to lead the visitors and Kate Krogen had 19 of her team's 19 assists.
McMurrayites Raisa Stokes and Jamie Ferns collected 16 and 11 digs, respectively for their hometown team. Sofia Janzen continued her strong play at the net as the rookie collected three of her team's six blocks.
Karly Burkinshaw of the Ooks and Maxwell of the Huskies earned Player of the Game honours for their respective sides.
