Rattlers bounce past Broncos

The Medicine Hat College Rattlers did their job on the road, knocking off the Olds College Broncos in straight sets at the Ralph Klein Centre on Friday.

The Rattlers (4-7) benefitted from strong attacking play from Montana Wright and her 10 kills on 18 attempts, while Anica Haberstock added nine kills on 22 attempts to go with two blocks. Defensively, Medicine Hat was all over the court, with four players registering 10 more digs, led by Hailey Adams with 13.

For Olds College (0-8), Sarah Merkosky reached double digits with 10 kills on 23 attempts, while Tabitha Martin added six kills on 22 attempts, paired with a team-high 10 digs.

The first set was competitive throughout, though Medicine Hat maintained a small cushion all the way through en route to a 25-22 win. The Rattlers posted an identical mark for the second set victory, though it came under much different circumstances as they had to withstand a Broncos comeback after jumping out to an early 7-0 lead.

Medicine Hat then wrapped up the match by getting hot late in the third set, closing with six of the last seven points en route to a 25-17 victory.

The Rattlers and Broncos will face off once more at 1 p.m. tomorrow, with the match wrapping up the first half of the season for both sides.
