WVB | Kodiaks come out on top after 5 sets
November 12, 2022- Our women's Kodiaks team came out this afternoon looking for a palette-cleansing win after a tough loss to the TKU Eagles on Friday evening.
The Kodiaks started the first set looking strong, with a couple of quick points and after an unfortunate fall for captain Jamie Brown taking her out of the game early, the Kodiaks looked to their bench to carry some of the weight. The first set was a close 2 point win for the Kodiaks, with POG #8 Shane Fowlie stepping up to lead the team in kills and a block for a score of 25-23.
Going into set two #1 Lindsay Nunn had a stellar performance despite not earning POG honours, she still stood out as a huge impact player in a game where the Kodiaks needed it the most. Kodiaks ended up falling to the Thunder 16-25.
#5 Mack Lewicki and #6 Aideena Wickstrom were absolute powerhouses on defence, with both of them securing double digits in digs, not to mention their contributions as starters on the offensive side of the game as well. Kodiaks unfortunately couldn't capitalize, but still managed to show improvement, ending the 3rd set 19-25.
Kodiaks finally found their stride in the fourth set, with Wickstrom and Fowlie collectively getting 8 kills. The women took the fourth set with a score of 25-20.
The Kodiaks came out strong once again to finish off the fifth set, but the Thunder answered by keeping the set close in points the whole time. Thanks to a slick 3 kills from #17, Eryka Woods the Kodiaks took the fifth set 15-12, ending the match for them 3-2.
