Women's Volleyball Huskies top visiting Thunder in ACAC Playoffs
The Keyano Huskies Women's Volleyball team rolled to a four-set win (23-25, 28-26, 25-16, 26-24) against the visiting Concordia Thunder Friday at the Syncrude Sport and Wellness Centre in Fort McMurray, Alta.
Opening the match, the Thunder won the first set to surprise their hosts, but the Huskies quickly settled into a groove and won the next three sets to claim the victory.
The win was the first-ever home playoff victory for the Women's Volleyball Huskies and first in ACAC Playoffs under a non-play-in system.
Tyneille Neufeld led the Huskies with 13 kills in the match. Lauren Huntley was close behind with 12 kills, adding three blocks to her impressive performance. McMurrayites Shelbey Hearn and Jamie Ferns each had 10 kills in the match.
Lainey Granley led the Huskies' block party with four stops while Huntley and rookie Tanisha McQueen each had three. Raisa Stokes led her side with 18 digs, six ahead of Neufeld's 12. Six different Huskies recorded a service ace in the victory as well. Setter Erika Box collected 39 assists over the course of the match.
Jolene Cook led the Thunder with 13 kills while Valeria Trujillo and Tanisha Cronin each contributed nine in the loss. Kara McIntyre had seven kills to go along with 11 digs. Renae Regal also found her way to double-digit digs, leading the team with 14.
Emma Derbyshire collected 29 assists while adding five blocks.
Hearn and McIntyre earned Player of the Game Honours for their respective sides.
The Huskies will now roll along to face the Lakeland Rustlers Sunday at 3:00 p.m.
