Clippers Win in Four During Thriller Versus Rattlers
First set opens with the first two points to Briercrest Clippers with a response of two points from the MHC Rattlers. Coming out of a TO for MHC at 9-4 for Clippers, the Rattlers has great energy and kills for a point. Briercrest establishes a 4 point lead at 11-7 and Rattlers put up a hard defence to try and catch up to a mere 2 point lead that Briercrest widens again for a 5 point lead into a time out for MHC at 18-13. The Rattlers put up a good offense against Briercrest as the Clippers make to take the set with a 5 point lead at 24-19. The Clippers take the set at 25-19 with a good serve.
Into the second set MHC come out with a great energy and trade points with Briercrest to 4-4 in the opening couple minutes. Rattlers battle to trade points with Briercrest to 13-10. Teams are well matched, neck and neck to tie points. Into a TO for Briercrest MHC pulls ahead to 17-15. The Rattlers were holding their 2 point lead. In the last stretch of the second set, Clippers battle to catch up with the Rattlers' 3 point lead at 23-20 into a TO for B Clippers. Off the bench, MHC take the set in a 2 point run to make it 25-20.
Into the third set, Briercrest earns the first 2 points. After an epic dive by the Clippers #8 to save the ball from the floor and make a long exciting volley, the Rattlers take the point. The Rattlers earn a 3 point lead at 6-3, but the Clipper's kill another exciting volley to take the point as they work their way back to tie 6-6. It's a match that has the audience on the edge of their seats with the back and forth! TO for Rattlers after a series of exhilarating volleys. Briercrest with a come back into a TO for the Rattlers with the points at 18-13. Both teams jump ahead to match point at 24-18 before the Clippers take with set at 25-18.
Going into a fourth set, a quick roof point off of the hanger gives Briercrest Clippers the opening point. Rattlers and Clippers trade points back-and-forth, MHC with a strong defensive line and Briercrest with good digs to give them a 3 point lead of 16-13 into a TO for MHC. Clippers widen the gap to 5 point lead as the Rattlers' pressing hard to close the lead. Rattlers battle to the last point as they push to make the points 24-20 at match point. Briercrest takes the win with a short volley to put away the game at 25-20. Player of the game is awarded by Max Summach to MHC's very own #1 Olivia Jacobsen with 2 digs, 4 kills, and 12 assists; and to Briercrest's #3 Maria Johnson for her 8 digs and 8 kills.
Briercrest's player of the game #3 Maria Johnson had this to say: "Obviously, we're glad we won, but it showed us some of the things we can improve on, like communication. They [MHC] came with a lot of fire and energy, they came with something to prove and they definitely did in the second set for sure—made us work for it. I look forward to taking it one step at a time as we become better followers of Jesus as we become better volleyball players, learning and growing as we head into our future games."
