Jenay Varga honoured as 2019-20 ACAC Women’s Volleyball North Rookie of the Year

Medicine Hat, AB, (February 26, 2020) – The Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) is pleased to announce Jenay Varga of the Lakeland Rustlers has been selected as the 2019-20 ACAC Women's Volleyball Rookie of the Year sponsored by Volleyball Alberta.

In Varga's rookie season as a Lakeland Rustler, she finished the regular season with 283 kills (3.14 kills/set), 60 service aces (0.67 aces/set), 265 digs (2.94 digs/set), 20 blocks (0.22 blocks/set). With this phenomenal season, she ended up setting two Lakeland College single-season records in kills (283, previously held by Ashley Lange in 2013-14) and aces (60, previously held by Ahnika Kuse in 2014-15). Varga finished 3rd in the ACAC in kills, kills per set, aces and aces per set. The Rustlers are extremely proud to see Varga develop and are excited for what the future will hold for her and the Rustlers women's volleyball program.

"Jenay has been a pleasure to coach," commented Austin Dyer, head coach.  "She is extremely humble and just shows up every day ready to compete and works to get better. I know Jenay will be extremely nervous about accepting this award because she does not like having the spotlight on her whatsoever, but that is what makes her a great athlete to coach and a great and well-respected teammate."

Varga is a bachelor of general studies student-athlete from Muenster, Sask.

This prestigious award was presented to Varga at the 2020 ACAC Women's Volleyball Championship Ceremony held on Medicine Hat College.
