Tears turn to Cheers

Tears turn to Cheers

In their last home match of the 2018-2019 Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) women's volleyball season, the host Keyano College Huskies once again spiked off against the visiting Concordia University of Edmonton Thunder at the Syncrude Sport & Wellness Centre's Canadian Natural Gymnasium.

They had won Friday in four sets 25-15, 21-25, 25-21, 25-14.

Tears were shed as Huskies' head coach Nic Davies gave roses and framed photos to graduating players Alexa Ellis and Laura Popowich prior to the game.

Set 1

Keyano 25 Concordia 15

Tears would soon lead to cheers as some early rallies highlighted the first set with Huskies' Faith Grant having a few kills and a dunkaroo or two with appreciation shown by a good Saturday afternoon crowd, including members of the local under 14 girls volleyball team.

Set 2

Keyano 27  Concordia 29

Some swerving serves by Thunder player Taylor Flint gives the visitors a 20-17 lead.

A fun set to watch.

Set 3

Keyano 25 Concordia 17

Huskies find their stride.  Also a happy birthday to Huskies player Mackenzie Stokes. Highlight of set was a diving pancake by Huskies' Haley Field to tie the set at 7-7.

Set 4

Keyano  26 Concordia 24

Huskies take time out down 10-12 after a Thunder block by Taylor Flint.

Not a Jack, Queen or King but a service Ace by Haley Field makes it 19-16 Huskies.

Home Hardware Player of the Game for Huskies Lauren Popowich.

Huskies teammate Faith Grant had 17 kills 5 blocks and 2 service aces.

POG for Concordia  Shae McDonald.
