WVB | Kodiaks battle hard in home and home series
January, 19th - In this home and home series, the Kodiaks looked to outplay the Trojans after an upset on Friday night.
As set one kicked off at 6 pm in the Val Matteotti gym in Lethbridge, both competitors came out with an immense amount of energy and intensity. The Kodiaks wanted to minimize allowing their counterparts, the Trojans, to go on any runs which seemed to be their issue Friday evening.
With this in mind, Lethbridge kept their errors to a minimum which managed to keep them in the first set up until the very end. As the score went from home and away every other point, the Kodiaks couldn't quite finish off the Trojans in set one. SAIT took the first set 25-22.
Kodiaks second year Mack Lewicki asserted her dominance on the court with her aggressive hits from both the front and back row. This was encouraging for her teammates as they attempted to follow her lead in the second set.
The second set started off strong for both teams, however the Trojans gained momentum of the game with their forceful spikes and strong defensive passes. Trojans second year outside hitter Jadyn Leong represented a strong arm in set two, achieving four points for her team. Finishing set two with a score of 25-17.
Moving into set three, the Kodiaks needed to find a spark amongst their team in order to stay in the game. Unfortunately, they were unable to do so which left the Trojans satisfied with a three set sweep. The Kodiaks struggled to keep up with the Trojans as they took the third set 25-11.
Shaelynne Roux of SAIT Trojans earned herself player of the game and had an impressive third set as she maintained her composure as well as picking up four digs.
