Baby Steps
With 11 first-year student/athletes listed on the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) website roster, the Keyano College Huskies women's volleyball team is expected to improve game-by-game during the 2018-2019 ACAC season.
Such was the case today at the Syncrude Sport & Wellness Centre's Canadian National Resources Ltd. Gymnasium as they fell to the visiting University of Alberta Augustana Vikings 17-25, 16-25, 14-25.
Despite the difference from Friday night's match, where they fell 20-25, 16-25, 20-25, the Nic Davies-coached Huskies appeared much more focused with their play this afternoon.
Huskies' Shae-Lyn Barth (1st year, Right Side, Business, Chestermere, Alberta) played well in the opening set with a service ace and block.
Teammate Alexa Ellis (5th year, setter, Art & Design, Nanaimo, B.C.) orchestrated the home side's offence with eight assists to go along with three kills, two service saves and six digs.
Huskies' Player of the Game was libero Raisa Stokes (1st year, Education, Fort McMurray, Alberta) with 20 digs.
Vikings' Player of the Game Shaelyn Boyes (1st year, Left Side, Physical Education, Rimbey, Alberta) had a team-high 10 kills to go along with three digs and three blocks.
Teammate Rae Metrunec added 12 kills and five digs.
Vikings had 44 kills compared to 17 for the Huskies.
