Jessica Zacharias Honoured as 2017-18 ACAC Women’s Volleyball South Rookie of the Year

Camrose, AB (February 21, 2018) – The Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) is pleased to announce Jessica Zacharias of Ambrose University has been selected as the 2017-18 ACAC Women's Volleyball South Rookie of the Year sponsored by Volleyball Alberta.

Jessica earned the starting setting position in her rookie year and led her team to its best regular season finish in program history, 14-10 and tied for 3rd in the ACAC South. Jess makes all her teammates around her better with precise setting location, wise decision making, and a confidence-instilling presence. Although the quarter back of the offense, Jess is a strong server (0.32 aces/per set), good defender, and holds her own on the block as well.

"We are very excited that Jessica has won this award and feel that she is very deserving. As the leader of our offense, Jess has instilled passion and grit and confidence into her teammates this season and has helped our team rise to a new level of play. Her leadership and hard work and intangible soft-skills are outstanding and with her drive we know she will only continue to shine in her post-secondary career."

Jessica is from Caronport, Saskatchewan, and in her first year of the Business Administration program. She is the youngest sister in the strong Zacharias volleyball family, and will be seen in the Hollywood Volleyball movie, "The Miracle Season" featuring Helen Hunt later this year!

This prestigious award was presented to Jessica Zacharias at the 2017 ACAC Women's Volleyball Championship Ceremony held on February 21, 2018 at University of Alberta, Augustana.
