Sam Zacharias Honoured as 2017-18 ACAC Women’s Volleyball Player of the Year
Camrose, AB (February 21, 2018) – The Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) is pleased to announce Sam Zacharias of Briercrest College has been selected as the 2017-18 ACAC Women's volleyball Player of the Year sponsored by Volleyball Officials Association of Alberta.
The outside hitter was pivotal in leading Briercrest to their best regular season record since joining the ACAC in 1996 (23-1 in league play, 1st place in the south division, ranked 4th nationally) She led the ACAC in kills with 344, Zacharias also led the conference in kills per set with 4.30, she was the conference leader in service aces with 72 and points 429.5. This season was also special for Zacharias as she became the all-time kills leader in ACAC play breaking the record of 1329 on February 9th 2018. For her career Zacharias finished with 1391 kills in only 354 sets.

She is a special player with an amazing consistency to go along with her competitive fire and incredible all-around skill set. But more than that, she is an outstanding person who has grown in so many ways over her career – in her character, in her leadership of others, and as a follower of Jesus. Seeing her desire to use the abilities God has given her and the skills she has worked so hard to develop, to reflect glory and honor back to Him is the best part. Zacharias is a fifth year BA Business Administration student. She is originally from Waldheim, SK, but now calls Caronport, SK home. This is the fourth straight year that she has been named ACAC Women's Volleyball Player of the Year, Sam was also named CCAA Women's Volleyball Player of the Year in 2014-15.
This prestigious award was presented to Sam Zacharias at the 2017 ACAC Women's Volleyball Championship held on February 21, 2018 at University of Alberta-Augustana.
