WVB | Kodiaks Sweep the Lions in Three

Oct 21, 2017 – The Kodiaks faced off against the Ambrose Lions on the second day of the Kodiaks' inaugural Hall of Fame weekend.

With Kodiaks legends watching from the stands, Lethbridge came out with a complete effort and avenged their loss to Ambrose last night with a 3-0 straight sets victory.

Kodiaks captain Kristine Ward started off the first set strong at the net for the Kodiaks with seven kills. The Lions' Willow Lewington had an impressive showing at the net of her own with four kills, keeping the scores tight. Down 17-14, the Lion took a time out and came out swinging to catch up, but the Kodiaks offense held them in the set for a 25-22 win.

The Kodiaks roared out to an early lead in the second set, bolstered by a strong service game from setter Ashleigh Noel. The Lions clawed their way back into the set with leadership from Julia Kemper with four kills and three digs. Despite the Lions best efforts, the Kodiaks maintained control of the set, strongly aided by Noel's combined performance behind the line to win the second set 25-21.

The Lions came out shaky in the third set as the Kodiaks quickly stole a sizable lead. The Lions' Kempner kept the Kodiaks honest but Laura Serafini and Kristine Ward's offensive and defensive contributions kept the Kodiaks on top. Lethbridge took set three 25-14 and won the match in three straight sets.

Kodiaks record advances to 3-1 while the Lions record falls to 1-1.

The Kodiaks are back in action next weekend at home as they take on the Red Deer Queens. Friday at 6:00PM and Saturday at 1:00PM.
