WSOC KC Huskies vs RDP Queens – Quarterfinal 2
Game 4
Oct. 24, 2025 – The quarterfinal matchup between the Red Deer Polytechnic Queens and the Keyano College Huskies opened with a fast-paced, high-energy first half. The Queens came out dominant in possession, generating several quality offensive opportunities early on. Their attack was well-organized and relentless, testing the Huskies' defensive structure repeatedly.
Despite the constant pressure, Keyano goalkeeper #29 Wanyi McLennan-Dillabough (first year, Calgary) was outstanding between the posts, turning away multiple Red Deer scoring chances with strong positioning and quick reflexes. Her composure kept the Huskies alive through several dangerous moments as the Queens continued to press.
Both teams traded chances as the half progressed, with Red Deer pushing forward and Keyano responding through quick counterattacks. The match developed into an exciting back-and-forth battle, but neither side could find the breakthrough before the whistle.
The second half continued similarly, with Red Deer maintaining much of the possession and Keyano relying on strong goalkeeping and timely clearances. Early in the half, Queens goalkeeper #1 Jessie Stewart (fifth year, Gull Lake, Alta.) made a crucial save, stopping a dangerous free kick just outside the box to keep the game level.
At the 59th minute, Red Deer finally broke through when #9 Sein Furuyama (third year, Kobe, Japan) scored with a composed finish after a perfectly timed assist from #5 Grace Smith (fifth year, Sylvan Lake, Alta.), giving the Queens a 1–0 lead. Red Deer continued to press the advantage, and just ten minutes later, the pair combined again, this time with Smith finding the back of the net off an assist from Furuyama at the 69th minute, doubling the lead to 2–0.
From there, the Queens managed the match with confidence, maintaining control and preventing Keyano from building any sustained momentum. The Huskies fought hard to find a late response, but Red Deer's organization and disciplined defence saw them close out the match comfortably.
