Ambrose Shows Steady Improvement in Loss to Vikings

While the Augustana Vikings still won the game, it was a vastly more competitive Ambrose squad this afternoon.  Part of the reason this was the case could be due to the conditions as at game time it was -3 and snowing.  Such conditions worked in the Lions favor, helping even the playing field and skill level of the two teams.

Ambrose played their best game of the season, forcing goaltender, Kiera Sunderland (Vikings - Player of the Game) to be sharp.  Gracey Nichol (Ambrose – Player of the Game) stood out in particular for the Lions as her play up front caused a lot of pressure for Sunderland.  While Kiera was only forced to make 4 saves and 1 other shot was recorded wide of the target, the Lions had crosses, and passes up from the defenders that Sunderland interrupted.

Jessica LaLonde played a key role in the Vikings attack as often she would take the ball down the wing and put in a quality ball for her strikers.  The first Augustna goal saw exactly that, Lalonde took the ball down the wing, crossed the ball into the box for Nicole Ubels who took a shot.  The first save was made by goalkeeper, Karina Kurtzweg, however Kara Strange finished the loose rebound into the back of the net.  Strange would add her second of the game in the 29th minute.  Kelsey Tollfson and Hanna Boyce would score in the second half for the Vikings adding extra insurance in the 85th and 90th minute respectively.
