WSOC | Kodiaks Fall to Broncos

Sept 24, 2017 – Coming off a disappointing road loss to SAIT the previous day, the Kodiaks hoped a return home would bring a change of fortune as they faced off with the Olds Broncos Sunday afternoon.

Unfortunately for the Kodiaks, a pair of second half goals for Olds was the difference in a tightly contested 3-1 defeat.

Lethbridge nearly got on the board first, when a shot from Sarah Fawcett rang off the bar and straight down onto the goal line. Olds' keeper Auslin Rae McDaniel-Perrin was able to reach back in desperation and keep the ball out to keep the game scoreless.

Olds then got on the board courtesy of first year forward Rachel Brodie. Brodie was able to turn something into nothing, placing a brilliant strike from the 15 yards out into the left corner to give Olds a 1-0 lead.

Lethbridge was able to tie the just a single minute later, however. Vicki Noronha continued her strong season by winning a race to a loose ball, holding off an Olds defender before tucking away her fourth of the season on a fantastic individual effort.

After coming out of the halftime break knotted at one, the Broncos didn't wait around to take control of the match.

Cassidy Brown scored for Olds just a minute into the second half on a nice pass from Brodie to put Olds up 2-1.

Despite spades of pressure from the Kodiaks, Brown took advantage of a defensive miscue and scored again at the 90' mark to put the game away.

Lethbridge will begin preparations for a home match next Saturday against Medicine Hat, while Olds will host Lakeland.
