Ooks clip Eagles to close out Pool A action
The NAIT Ooks came out ahead by a 3-2 score in a Battle of Edmonton to close out Pool A action at the 2023 Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) Women's Futsal Championship inside the Syncrude Sport and Wellness Centre in Fort McMurray, Alta.
Alana Mawhinney and Sarah Moorji scored for the Ooks in the first half while the Eagles responded with goals from Michaella Freiha and Aimee Tiemstra to keep the score level in the opening half.
The second half featured just a single goal as the two sides were locked in a defensive battle with Moorji striking for the Ooks.
"What a battle," said Ooks Head Coach Dhee Govender. "Coming into the weekend, we knew that we had to be super organized and be there for each other.
"Kudos to everybody in the group. They stuck with it and what we're trying to build here; not just for now but in the future and it shows in the dedication ad performances to each other."
The win clinched the top spot in Pool A for the NAIT Ooks, who advanced atuomatically to Sunday's semi-final with the win.
Mawhinney of the Ooks & Isabelle King of the Eagles earned Player of the Game honours for their respective sides.
