NAIT nabs a victory in Olds
The NAIT Ooks had to grind, but they got the job done for a 2-0 road win over the Olds College Broncos at the Town of Olds Sportsplex on Thursday.
Michaella Kibblewhite had a goal and an assist to earn player of the game honours for the Ooks (12-1-2), while Josie Nichols added the other goal for NAIT, and Havana Batke turned aside all 30 shots she faced for the shutout.
For the Broncos (5-7-5), Cienna Kinghorn made 32 saves in a losing effort while Abby Webster, skating in her final regular season home game as a Bronco before heading to Prince Edward Island for the 2023 Canada Winter Games, was named Olds College's player of the game.
After a scoreless opening period, Kibblewhite got NAIT on the board less than two minutes into the second, as she found a loose puck in the slot before shovelling it through traffic and past Kinghorn. The Ooks then wrapped up the scoring about seven minutes into the third, as a seeing eye shot from Nichols on the powerplay found its way through Kinghorn's legs to extend NAIT's lead to two.
Olds College's best chances to get on the board came on a 5-on-3 at the end of the second, but they were unable to threaten Batke; Kaitlyn Sandul also a had a chance off a turnover late in the third, but again, Batke was up to the task.
The Ooks and Broncos will complete their regular season series Saturday night in Edmonton, with opening puck drop set for 6 p.m.
