Avery Lajeunesse honoured as 2019-20 ACAC Women’s Hockey Rookie of the Year

Red Deer, AB (March 5, 2020) – The Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) is pleased to announce Avery Lajeunesse of the RDC Queens has been selected as the 2019-20 ACAC Women's Hockey Rookie of the Year sponsored by CCM Hockey.

Lajeunesse was an integral part of the Queens (15-6-3-0) finishing second in the league. Over 23 regular-season games, the first-year Open Studies student tied for the team-lead with eight goals, which included one game-winner. Her goal-scoring prowess tied for sixth across the league, among a group of veteran players. She was capable and trusted to play in all situations, recording two power-play goals and a pair of shorthanded markers. She added seven assists and finished second on the RDC Queens, and 11th in ACAC Women's Hockey, with 15 points.

The talented Red Deer student-athlete played well against the NAIT Ooks in the ACAC Championship best-of-three semi-final. In game two Lajeunesse opened the scoring on the power play in Saturday's 4-3 road win, helping send the series back to Red Deer for game three. She used her speed, generated offensive opportunities and helped the Queens push the third game to double-overtime against the Ooks, who picked up a close 3-2 win.

Lajeunesse is a great teammate, who is willing to work hard in practices, training and games.

The prestigious awards were announced prior to the opening face-off of game one of the best-of-five final between the MacEwan University Griffins and NAIT Ooks on Thursday, March 5 at the Downtown Community Arena.
