Lindsay McAlpine Named ACAC 2018-19 Women’s Hockey Coach of the Year

EDMONTON, AB (March 8, 2019) – The Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) is proud to announce Lindsay McAlpine of the MacEwan University Griffins has been named the ACAC Women's Hockey Coach of the Year.

This is the third-straight season McAlpine has won the award and fourth time overall in her career, which has spanned nine seasons as head coach of the Griffins.

"An honour like this is really representative of a cohesive team, which is emblematic of the culture and environment that Lindsay creates for the Griffins to perform," said MacEwan Director of Athletics Ken Schildroth. "We're honoured that she has received this recognition for her performance by her peers."

McAlpine has guided the Griffins to two-straight ACAC Championships and has them back in the finals hunting for another one as they go against NAIT in a best-of-five series. This season, the Griffins finished second in the ACAC standings with a 17-5-2-0 record.

Since McAlpine has taken over at the helm of the program, her teams have a combined 106-80-24 regular season record and an 18-18 playoff record, including MacEwan's 2-1 win over Red Deer College in the ACAC semifinal last weekend.

McAlpine received the award on Friday, March 8, 2019 prior to Game 1 of the ACAC Women's Hockey Conference Championship final series held at NAIT Arena.
