Carley Jewell Honoured as 2017-18 ACAC Women’s Hockey Player of the Year
EDMONTON, AB March 1, 2018 – The Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) is pleased to announce Carley Jewell of the MacEwan University Griffins has been selected as the 2017-18 ACAC Women's Hockey Player of the Year sponsored by CCM Reebok.
The MacEwan blueliner led all ACAC defensemen in scoring with six goals and 20 points in 24 games. That production led the first-place Griffins in offence, too – a rare feat for a rearguard – and was third-best in the ACAC.
"I'm really proud of her, obviously," said Griffins head coach Lindsay McAlpine. "I think it's really awesome when a player on your team can take away that award.
"She's a very dynamic defenseman and you can see that in her numbers for us. She offers a ton for us offensively but also is someone we can rely on defensively in various special team's situations."
Jewell is a third-year Science major from Winnipeg, who aims to one day become an anesthesiologist.
This prestigious award was presented to Jewell on March 1, prior to Game 1 of the ACAC Championship series between the MacEwan Griffins and Red Deer College Queens.
