The King's University Eagles take on the St. Mary's University Lightning in game 8 of the 2025 Women's Basketball Championships

In an exciting final game of day 2 of the championship weekend, STMU came away with a dominant 71-52 victory over TKU, powered by Jazmyn Kellogg's stellar performance. Kellogg led all scorers with 29 points, shooting 9-25 from the field and an impressive 9-10 from the free-throw line. Her scoring, alongside Maitlynn Miller's strong 20-point contribution, propelled STMU to victory.

Kellogg also added 3 rebounds and 4 personal fouls, while Miller provided solid rebounding, grabbing 7 boards. Kendal Russell chipped in with 14 points and 8 rebounds, including 3 three-pointers, and Eva Nickerson contributed 8 points on a perfect shooting night from beyond the arc, going 2-2 from three. Despite Ivet Hidalgo being held scoreless, she contributed with 5 rebounds and 1 assist.

STMU shot 31.9% from the field, 25.0% from three-point range, and a remarkable 94.7% from the free-throw line, only committing 5 turnovers in the process. Their defense played a key role in the win, forcing the Eagles into 17 turnovers and converting them into 7 points.

On the other side, TKU struggled offensively, shooting only 29.8% from the field and 23.8% from beyond the arc. Aneilia Ayotte led the Eagles with 11 points and 5 rebounds, while Kayla Soetaert added 10 points, knocking down 3 of 9 from three-point range. Megan Aleman was strong on the boards, pulling down a game-high 12 rebounds, but TKU's offense couldn't keep pace with STMU's efficient scoring.

TKU's bench was able to contribute 10 points, but it wasn't enough to overcome STMU's defense and strong individual performances. Although TKU dominated the rebounding battle with 51 total rebounds compared to STMU's 32, they couldn't capitalize on their second-chance opportunities, managing just 7 second-chance points. STMU's ability to limit turnovers and make the most of their free throws gave them the edge in this game, securing a convincing victory.

With a second win under STMU's belt this weekend, they are advancing onto the gold medal game tomorrow at 6:00 pm, battling it out against the SAIT Trojans. TKU will be moving onto the bronze medal game tomorrow at 3:00 pm against Briercrest.
