SAIT Trojans take on the Briercrest Clippers in game 7 of the 2025 Women's Basketball Championships

SAIT Trojans and Briercrest Clippers go head-to-head in game 6 of the championship weekend to determine who will advance to the gold medal match.

In a thrilling game, SAIT narrowly overcame Briercrest with a 76-71 victory, largely thanks to Brook Baker's outstanding 28-point performance. Baker shot an efficient 10-18 from the field, including 2-8 from beyond the arc, and hit 6-7 free throws. She was pivotal in keeping SAIT in the lead, adding 4 steals and providing strong defense against Briercrest's backcourt.

Kitawna Sparks also had a significant impact for SAIT, contributing a double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds. Her presence in the paint was key to SAIT's success, as she dominated the boards and shot 5-11 from the field, along with a perfect 3-3 from the free-throw line. Anegor Wol played a balanced game, adding 11 points, 4 rebounds, and 3 assists, while Lauren Bailey chipped in with 1 point and 2 rebounds off the bench.

Despite SAIT's 39.1% shooting from the field, they struggled from three-point range, only converting 5 of 28 attempts (17.9%). However, their free-throw shooting was strong, making 21 of 25 (84.0%), which proved to be a crucial factor in the tight win.

On Briercrest's side, Asia Wells put on a remarkable performance, leading her team with 24 points and 6 rebounds. Wells was highly efficient, shooting 7-14 from the field and 10-13 from the free-throw line. Amber Fichner also had a solid outing, scoring 14 points and grabbing 8 rebounds, while Sydney Waind added 13 points, including a perfect 6-6 from the free-throw line.

Briercrest had a better shooting percentage from the field at 47.8%, but their struggles from three-point range (3-13, 23.1%) and turnovers (19) hurt their chances. Despite a resilient effort, Briercrest could not close the gap, as SAIT maintained control down the stretch to secure the victory.

This win advances SAIT into the gold medal match tomorrow at 6:00 pm, while Briercrest's valiant effort falls just short in a closely contested game they still have an opportunity to get a bronze medal title at tomorrow's 3:00 pm game.
