NAIT Clinches a spot in the Gold Medal Match
The St. Mary's University Lighting takes on the NAIT Ooks tonight at 8 pm in the Game 2 Semi-Final Match held at Lakeland College. The Lighting and Ooks started the game very close, with both teams utilizing their defensive press to execute off of turnover opportunities. The Lighting attempted to climb their way on top after the Ooks went on a three-point shooting run but fell short, ending the quarter, 10-15 for the Ooks. The NAIT Ooks were led by Aliyah Johnson, scoring 17 points mostly off of the fast break in the first half. The Ooks pulled away from the Lightning, who struggled offensively to get any offensive opportunities. The Ooks ended the half leading the Lightening, 23-32 for the Ooks. Entering the third quarter, the Lightning made a comeback, trailing by only one point in the first three minutes. The Lightening and Ooks continued to go back and forth, finishing the third quarter, 43-44 for the Ooks. The fourth quarter was full of action. The Ooks pulled away halfway through the fourth after making three three-pointers in a row, 49-57. The Ooks pulled away and took the game 60-67 to head with Lakeland College in the gold medal match tomorrow at 8 pm. The game players were #11 Hannah Helton off the St. Mary's Lightening and #8 Aliyah Johnson off the NAIT Ooks.
