Kennedy Werre Honoured as 2017-18 ACAC Women's Basketball Player of the Year

Calgary, AB (February 28, 2018) – The Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) is pleased to announce Kennedy Werre of the Medicine Hat College Rattlers has been selected as the 2017-18 ACAC Women's Basketball Player of the Year sponsored by Vereburn Medical Supplies.

Kennedy had an outstanding season this year for the Rattlers.  She led the league in rebounding at 13.5 per game and she was fourth in scoring with 15.9 points per game.  Kennedy also finished fifth in free throw percentage, 82.3%, and tenth in field goal percentage, 47.7%.  Kennedy broke two ACAC records this year as she now has the most defensive rebounds in a single season and she also set the record for most career rebounds.

"When you think of Rattlers Women's Basketball you think of Kennedy Werre. Kennedy brings hard work, drive, leadership and the higher level of compete needed to play post-secondary basketball. She is a role model to young female basketball players and always has time to talk to them. Her growth as a basketball player has been tremendous, but not as much as her growth as a leader and as a person. She leads our team with her desire to win and determination to get better", said Head Coach Clayton Nielsen.

Kennedy is a fifth year Rattler from Medicine Hat, who is in the Bachelor of Education program at Medicine Hat College.  She is a four time ACAC All Conference player, an ACAC All-Academic athlete, an Academic All-Canadian and she is on the College's Honour Roll.  Kennedy is also an active participant in the Rattlers community engagement program frequently volunteering in community events.

This prestigious award was presented to Kennedy at the 2018 ACAC Women's Basketball Championship Banquet held on February 28, 2018 at SAIT.
