Kodiaks Move to 4-0 With Win Over Lightning Women

November 17, 2016…Calgary- In one of the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) 'marquee match-ups' of the week, the Lethbridge Kodiaks women's basketball team defeated the St. Mary's University Lightning Friday night, 80-59.

The first quarter saw a very close match-up between the two nationally ranked teams, with the Kodiaks getting out to the early 17-14 lead heading into the second quarter. The second quarter is where things started to go south for the Lightning, as Lethbridge started to pull away with the lead midway through.
The Lightning were held to just one point from the midway point of the second quarter, before Laura Belisle (5th year, General Studies, Calgary) hit a buzzer beating three pointer, ending the half with a 41-28 lead by the Kodiaks.
 
Things didn't improve for the Lightning in the second half, despite outscoring the Kodiaks in the third quarter 24-22.  The Kodiaks would go on to secure the win, and remain undefeated so far this season.
 
With the loss, the Lightning move to 4-2 on the season while Lethbridge remains a perfect 4-0.
 
Sunder West (3rd year, General Studies, Raymond) and Logan Moncks (4th year, Business Administration, Cardston,) led with 27 and 23 points respectively for Lethbridge, while Abby Gibb (3rd year, General Studies, Calgary) led the Lightning with 13.
 
The Alberta Colleges Athletic Association (ACAC) Player of the Game were presented to Lethbridge's Leah  Ekubazgi( 2nd year, General Studies, Lethbridge) and St. Mary's Belisle.
