2023 ACAC Women's Indoor Track Rookie of the Year | Rebecca Ross
Edmonton, AB (March 24, 2023) - The Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) is pleased to announce Becky Ross of the Medicine Hat Rattlers has been selected as the 2022-23ACAC Female Indoor Track Rookie of the Year.
At last weekend’s ACAC Indoor Track Championships, Ross placed first in the 3000m, 4th in the 1500m, 5th in the 1000m, and ran the 3rd leg on the Rattlers 5th place 4 x 400m relay team. She accumulated 20 placing points – the most among ACAC rookies in the meet.
“Becky is an amazing runner and an even more amazing person,” says Rattlers Running Coach Bill Corcoran. “She manages to balance college athletics, a demanding academic program, motherhood, and operating an artisanal ice cream business. I don’t know how she does it all. She wins at everything!”
Ross is a third-year Nursing student and mother of five-year old daughter Charlie. Ross started competitive running last spring and won her first-ever race: the 2022 Rattler Run 10 km in Medicine Hat. Last fall she finished 4th at the ACAC XC Running Championships and was named ACAC Rookie of the Year. At the 2022 CCAA XC Running Championships on her home course in Medicine Hat, she placed sixth, earning CCAA All Canadian status.
This prestigious award was recognized at the 2023 ACAC Indoor Track Championship hosted by Concordia University of Edmonton last Sunday.
