2023 ACAC Men's Indoor Track Rookie of the Year | Cooper Williams
Edmonton, AB (March 24, 2023) - The Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) is pleased to announce Cooper WIlliams of the Lethbridge College Kodiaks has been selected as the 2022-23 ACAC Men’s Indoor Track Rookie of the Year.
Cooper had an incredible first season with the Kodiaks. In the first Grand Prix: he set a new college record for the men’s 3000m event with a time of 8:56.15. Then he went on to break his record he set for the school in the men’s 3000m setting a new time of 8:48.50 at the second grand prix. At the ACAC Championships he was part of the top four runners in the men’s 1500m event that was faster than the ACAC record. Cooper only raced in three indoor events at the ACAC championship and contributed 18 points to the teams 83-point victory.
“What an incredible honor for an outstanding student athlete,” says Todd Caughlin, Kodiaks Athletics Director. “Being a rookie has its own demands and for Cooper to step in and compete at the level he did in such a competitive field is amazing! We are proud of him!”
Williams grew up in the town of Cardston and is currently in his first year of Wind Turbine Technician program. During the fall he ran cross country for the Kodiaks, placed seventh in ACAC cross country with a time of 27:57 then went on to place twelfth in CCAA nationals’ cross country with an improved time of 26:40.
