Keyano Huskies sweep Broncos in opening round

The Keyano College Huskies used a strong home crowd to power themselves to a three-set sweep (25-20, 25-21, 25-23) into the semi-finals at the 2023 ACAC Men's Volleyball Championship Presented by Elite Promo Marketing Thursday afternoon at the Syncrude Sport and Wellness Centre in Fort McMurray, Alta.

"We prepared so much for this team," setter Nikola Sreckovic said. "To come out and just play our game. I feel like we really executed that part. I feel like everybody on the team did their individual job correctly so that's what brought us 3-0 today."

João Cunha and Radek Brzozowski each had 10 kills to lead the Huskies, who faced a formidable challenge from the third-seeded Broncos, though they eventually prevailed.

Reed Grusing and Matheus Franca each had seven kills to lead the Broncos.

Trey Weinmeier had six for the Huskies. Brzozwski contributed 10 digs to lead his side in that category. Cunha had eight. Sreckovic picked up 27 assists while handling setting duties for the Huskies.

Thomas Pugsley had 17 for the Broncos in response while Jesse Stoddart led his team with seven digs.

Earning Player of the Game honours were Sreckovic from the Huskies and Grusing from the Broncos.
