Broncos knock out Trojans, advance to ACAC MVB Championship
The Olds College Broncos have punched their tickets to Fort McMurray.
Making full use of home court advantage, the Broncos defeated the SAIT Trojans in four sets (25-18, 25-15, 17-25, 25-21) in a play-in game for the ACAC Men's Volleyball Championship on Saturday.
Aidyn Phillips played a starring role for the Broncos, earning player of the game honours with 16 kills and a block, with Matheus Franca (14) and Reed Grusing (13) also earning double-digit point totals. Thomas Pugsley ran the offense effectively with 37 assists while also posting four aces without an error.
Meanwhile, Ryan Zachary had a game-high 18 points (15 kills, two blocks, and an ace) to be named player of the game for the Trojans, and Filip Florek also got into double digits with an 11-point outing. Libero Dominic Soucie was also a busy man all evening for SAIT, posting a game-high 18 digs.
From here, the Broncos will now face off with the championship host in the Keyano College Huskies on Thursday at 6 p.m. Olds College and Keyano faced off on Nov. 4 in Olds, with the Huskies taking that match in four sets.
