Eagles prevail over Broncos in Olds
In a matchup between two nationally ranked squads, The King's University Eagles scored a four-set victory (25-22, 25-19, 21-25, 25-14) over the Olds College Broncos at the Ralph Klein Centre on Friday.
TKU's Kaiden Aceron was a dominant force with 18 points (14 kills, four blocks) and 11 digs, while Jayden Hiebert turned in an equally strong performance with 16 points (13 kills, three blocks) and 10 digs for the Eagles (14-4), as the CCAA's 10th-ranked team clinched the top seed in the ACAC North for the upcoming ACAC Men's Volleyball Championship with the victory.
Meanwhile, the CCAA #15 Broncos (11-7) were led by Aidyn Phillips and his 15-point performance (14 kills, one ace), while Reed Grusing added 12 points of his own (10 kills, one ace, one block). Defensively, fifth-year libero Jesse Stoddart led Olds College with 11 digs in his final regular season match on home court.
Despite the loss, the Broncos are officially locked in as the third seed in the ACAC South by virtue of Briercrest losing to Keyano in Fort McMurray.
Both teams will complete their regular seasons tomorrow in Edmonton, with the Eagles welcoming the SAIT Trojans to town and the Broncos travelling to face the Concordia University of Edmonton Thunder.
