Broncos roll over Rattlers

The Olds College Broncos are finding their stride heading into the holidays, posting a straight sets victory over the Medicine Hat College Rattlers to complete a weekend sweep at the Ralph Klein Centre on Saturday.

Matheus Franca served up a strong performance for the Broncos (5-4), recording seven aces to go with six kills on nine attempts and a solo block to be named the Broncos' player of the game. Olds College offered an efficient and balanced attack, with Reed Grusing also posting six kills with two blocks, and Strahinja Lazarevic each adding five kills of their own.

For the second straight night, Nathan Chernik was the player of the game for Medicine Hat (1-11) after leading all attackers with seven kills to go with four digs, whlle Jordan McKee added six kills on 15 attempts.

The Broncos got up early in the first to set the tone for the rest of the match, parlaying a hot start into a 25-17 win to go up a set. Franca then found his form from the service line in the second, as his six aces propelled the Broncos to a 25-15 set score to go up two sets to none.

The final set followed a similar script to the first two, with the Broncos getting out to an early 12-5 lead before cruising to a 25-17 win to wrap up their third straight match to go above .500 for the season.

Both the Broncos and Rattlers will next take the court in ACAC play on Jan. 13, with the Broncos going north to face the Northwestern Polytechnic Wolves, while the Rattlers will host the University of Alberta-Augustana Vikings.
