MVB| Kodiaks Fall in a Neck n Neck Battle
November 11, 2022- The Kodiaks men's volleyball fought tooth and nail in their home opener against the second-standing team in the North Division, the Kings University Eagles.
The Kodiaks' nerves were high entering the first set as they allowed the Eagles to sneak ahead; however, they regrouped and fixed their errors, matching the score of the Eagles at point 19. The Eagles energy filled the gym, leading them to close out the first set with a score of 25-22.
The Eagles came into the second set strong receiving an ace on their first serve. The Kodiaks continued to shake off their home opener nerves, as they slowly gained momentum and surpassed the Eagles score, early in the set. As the set continued the Kodiaks continued to gain control no matter how hard the Eagles fought. Kodiaks took the second set 25-19.
Kodiaks took the lead early in the third set; however, the Eagles were not far behind. The Eagles found the Kodiaks' weak spots allowing them to close in and move ahead. The teams were neck n neck through the whole set, only the last couple of points determined the outcome. The Kodiaks stole the show with a score of 27-25, only needing one more win to take home the W.
Intensity continued to run high in the fourth set as both teams fought for every point. The Eagles gained the drive and control needed to build almost a 10 point wedge between them and the Kodiaks. Unfortunately, for the Kodiaks the wedge was too large to regain the momentum needed to win the set. The Eagles won the fourth set 25-18, that led to the fifth and final set.
The fifth set was nothing short of dedication and high spirits. The crowd was in it every point of the game, eager to watch the Kodiaks take the lead. However, as the game came to the end the Kodiaks were unable to get on top and the Eagles closed out the game with a score of 15-12.
