NAIT Ooks Defeat Lakeland Rustlers
The NAIT Ooks took on the Lakeland Rustlers at home on Friday night. The two teams haven't seen each other since before the Christmas break. It was a hard-fought battle, but the NAIT Ooks came out above, winning 3-1.
Both teams came out strong in the first set. Rustlers' setter Lane Blight was strong in the first set with ten assists to help bring his team to a 25-23 victory over the NAIT Ooks. It was 1-0 Rustlers going into the second set.
The second set was a battle. The Ooks came out fighting after losing the first set. Karter Godin was strong in the set with ten assists for his team. The Ooks pulled ahead late in the set and won 23-18. 1-1 after the second set.
The third set was anybody's game. There was a strong back and forth between the two teams. Shae McIntyre and Jonathan Shapka were vital for the NAIT Ooks, with 38 total attempts between the two of them in three sets. The NAIT Ooks took the third set 25-20. It was 2-1 Ooks after three.
The NAIT Ooks came out strong in the fourth set. They pulled ahead of the Lakeland Rustlers early in the set. Lakeland wasn't going down without a fight, though; they got a few late points to help close the gap between the teams. The NAIT Ooks stayed strong and pulled out a 25-21 win.
Both teams are back in action tomorrow, Saturday night, at Lakeland College.
