Kings take four setter over persistent Lions

Red Deer, AB - The Ambrose University Lions made the Red Deer College Kings work Friday evening. The two teams were even after two sets, but the Kings persevered and picked up a four set home victory (25-20, 22-25, 25-17 and 25-21).

RDC setter Thomas Wass (33 assists) connected with Patrik Toze most successfully.

The six-foot-four outside hitter from Brisbane led both teams with 14 kills. He added three aces, two digs and one stuff block, and was named the Collegiate Sports Medicine Kings Player-of-the-Game. Carter Hills totaled 11 kills and Ben Holmes added ten. 

Ambrose University setter Jared Vanderzwaag recorded 24 assists, seven digs, two stuffs, two kills and one ace.

Stephen Jones received the top player award for the Lions. Jones contributed eight kills and one stuff block, while hitting for 0.286 per cent efficiency. 

Teammate Adrian Strandberg chipped in with eight kills. Nikita Marchenkov had five.

The Kings fired five aces. The Lions responded with four. 

On Saturday, Jan. 25, the RDC Kings (11-4) and Lions (1-16) will meet in Calgary at 8:00 pm.
