Broncos unable to bounce back against SAIT

Olds College Broncos men's volleyball team lost 3-0 (25-20, 25-17, 25-20) to the SAIT Trojans in the Broncos Alumni Home Opener Saturday, Oct. 26 at the Ralph Klein Centre.

Olds jumped out to a lead to start the game before a run put SAIT up 14-10, forcing a Broncos timeout. The Broncos responded out of the timeout but SAIT then extended their lead to 18-11 and forced another Broncos timeout. Olds was able to cut into the lead slightly, but fell 25-17.

SAIT jumped out to a 6-4 lead before Jesse Stoddart had a service ace to tie the score at 6-6. The teams then when side-out ball until Olds went on a 3-0 run off serving from Mason Muller to being the score to 10-9 for Olds. SAIT then went on a run of their own to force an Olds timeout with a 12-10 SAIT advantage. SAIT went on a bit of a run to pull away to 17-10 and force another Olds timeout. SAIT came out of the timeout with two straight points before serving into the net. SAIT won the second set 25-18.

SAIT Started the third set with a 4-1 run before Lukas Dragicevic had a great kill off two blocker to stop the SAIT run. SAIT pulled to a 14-8 lead before a powerful Thundersky Walkingbear kill ended the run. The Broncos had some nice push backs including when SAIT had a 23-18 lead, but were unable to build enough momentum to win the set with SAIT taking it 25-20.

Player of the game for SAIT was libero Andrew Birchall with a game high 15 digs and the Pit Barbecue Player of the Game for the Broncos was Thundersky Walkingbear with a game high 11 kills and three service aces.

SAIT held the advantage for kills 35-23, assists 33-24, digs 47-22 and stuff blocks 8-7. Both teams had four service aces. Thomas Pugsley had a team high 11 assists for Olds, while Davis Clarke had a team high 10 digs and Lukas Dragicevic had a game high three blocks.

The Broncos host Lethbridge College next weekend for with the Women's Cancer Awareness Game on Friday, Nov. 1 and Olds College Student Appreciation Game Saturday, Nov. 2. Game times are 8:00 pm and 3:00 pm respectively.
