MVB | Kodiaks remain undefeated in season

Nov. 10th A battle of Southern Alberta brought together the top two ranked teams in the ACAC South Division, the Lethbridge College Kodiaks and the Medicine Hat College Rattlers as the Kodiaks looked to continue an undefeated season.

The Rattlers came out strong in the first set, determined to gain an early lead over the Kodiaks, but they were no match for the Kodiaks, who started out with a momentum that built up over several games. Kodiaks Carter Hansen was a powerhouse at the net, leading the team in kills throughout the set and helping to deliver his team a 25-20 first set victory.

The Rattlers came out with a vengeance in the second set, gaining a small lead over the Kodiaks midway through the set, but the Kodiaks quickly regained their footing to steal back the lead after a series of powerful kills from Dax Whitehead and Hansen gave the team something to rally behind. The set shifted into a point-for-point battle to the end, with the Kodiaks just squeaking by with a 26-24 victory to give them a 2-0 lead in the match.

Not ready to give into the Kodiaks easily, the Rattlers maintained constant pressure on the Kodiaks right from the beginning of the third set. Rattlers Alfred Dalevik proved to be a strong competitor at the net, laying down massive kills andcontributing to his team gaining their largest lead over the Kodiaks in the game. The Kodiaks rallied back in the end of the set but the Rattlers stuck with them to steal their first set victory 27-25.

The Kodiaks regained control in the fourth set, ready to put an end to a nerve-wracking match. Whitehead and Hansen continued their powerful dominance of the court, throwing the rattlers off of their stride and allowing the Kodiaks to claim a final set score of 25-14 and a match score of 3-1.

The Kodiaks will be back in action on home turf next Friday, November 16th, as they take on the Olds College Broncos.
