From CLAC to CLICK
Prior to the game at the Syncrude Sport & Wellness Centre's Canadian National Resources Ltd. Gymnasium, Keyano Huskies men's volleyball coach Keegan Kuhr presented a Huskies team-autographed volleyball to Jay Beckert, the Regional Director of CLAC, for their ongoing support the last six years.
It took a while for 2017-2018 Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference silver medalists to find their rhythm though and start to CLICK against the visiting University of Alberta Augustana Vikings as the first set went 30-28 for the hosts with more than 300 fans applauding the back-and-forth action.
Set two went to the Vikings as they managed to win several one-on-one matchups at the net with the Huskies back row defence faltering in a 19-25 loss.
Huskies would regroup to win the match 25-22 and 25-19.
Huskies' Player of the Game was Liam Matheson (5th year, outside, Business Admin, Tauranga, New Zealand) with 16 kills, three service aces, 23 digs and a block.
Radoslaw Brzozowski (2nd year, Left Side, Business, Wroclaw, Poland) also had a solid game with 14 kills, 14 digs and three blocks.
Huskies' Tyrell Muskego (5th year, Middle, Power Engineering, Nielburg, Saskatchewan) had one of the best plays of the match with a pancake dig in the third set.
Vikings' Player of the Game Jesse Webber (2nd year, right side, Biology, Athabasca, AB) had five kills, three service aces and six digs. Owen Murray and Lyndon Varga each had nine kills for the contingent from Camrose, Alberta.
Huskies dominated at the net with 52 kills and 15 blocks compared to the Vikings 39 and eight respectively.
Huskies are now three matches won, nine sets won, and one set loss while the Vikings have a respectable two matches won, one match lost with seven sets won and four sets lost.
