Another Four Set Loss For The Lions In The Den

In the first set, the Lions came out swinging. Everything was clicking for the home team; serving was aggressive and misses were rare, the defense was consistent, and their attacking was hard to stop. The Lions won 25-18, after a blocking error from Medicine Hat's Vitor Pereira.

The second set began much like the first, after a long serving run by Lions middle Brayden Nowosad and Rattlers hitting errors put the Lions up 12-5 lead. From there, however, Medicine Hat began to turn it around. Going on a 14-4 run to make the score 19-16, Medicine Hat took advantage of every Lions error to bring themselves closer to evening up the sets. Both teams fought in the set's final moments, but a tip from Rattler's captain Brodie Dolter took it 25-23.

The Rattlers' momentum kept rolling from then on, winning the third set 25-15. Very tough serving from Pereira made it difficult for the Lions to sustain any sort of run, despite the outstanding passing of Lions POG Logan Sept. Unfortunately, unforced errors from the Lions took it from difficult to impossible.

Rattlers POG Alfred Dalevik, his team's heart and soul throughout the game, continued to play strong defense into the fourth set. Ambrose couldn't find an answer for the attacking of Vitor Pereira, and combined with a few too many Lions errors, the Rattlers stretched out a lead late in the fourth set. In a mirrored finished of the first set, a Lions net touch error gave the Rattlers the win at 25-18. Despite a few very promising moments over the weekend, Ambrose has yet to find its way to the win column.

Next weekend Ambrose will be visited by the Briercrest Clippers, so if you can't make it to the gym, watch the game live on acactv.com. The men play at 8:00 pm on Friday and 3:00 pm on Saturday, both following the women's games.
