SAIT Trojans vs KC Huskies men’s bronze medal match

Game 10

The men's bronze medal match featured a showdown worthy of its own championship final – the SAIT Trojans and the Keyano College (KC) Huskies.

KC struck first, opening the scoring in just the fourth minute of play when #11 Daniel Hudson(first year, Okotoks, Alta.) capitalized on a well-placed pass from #10 Stef Vullinghs(first year, Vlijmen, North Brabant, the Netherlands). The Huskies continued to push offensively, but just before halftime, a handball inside the SAIT box gave them a chance to extend their lead with a penalty kick. SAIT goalkeeper #30 Tristen Fraser(third year, Cluny, Alta.) came up with a huge save to keep his team within one heading into the break.

In the second half, the Trojans wasted no time responding. In the 49th minute, #10 Hafiz Mahjor(fifth year, Calgary, Alta.) finished off a pass from #23 Rob Woodroffe-Brown(third year, Moose Jaw, Sask.) to tie the game 1-1. KC quickly countered with a series of quality chances, including a crossbar strike that nearly restored its lead.

Momentum swung again when SAIT earned a penalty kick after a yellow card was issued to KC. #23 Rob Woodroffe-Brown stepped up to bury the shot, giving SAIT the 2-1 advantage.

The remainder of the match was physical and hard-fought, with both sides exchanging chances and yellow cards. In the end, the Trojans' disciplined defence held strong to claim the bronze medal in a battle between two powerhouse programs.

SAIT's #10 Hafiz Mahjor was named to the ACAC Championships All-Tournament Team for his play throughout the weekend.
