The Lions had an opportunity to see where they fit in their inaugural season as they challenged the #1 Nationally Ranked SAIT Trojans, Tuesday night. For the first 10min they were able to hold their own. SAIT had to be one their toes from the get go as pressure from strikers Matthew Wideman and Matias Hains took away time and space from the Trojans. It didn't take long however for the Trojans skill to start to take over.
In the 13th minute a cross from Jake Walmsley to Joseph Lambele got the Trojans off to a 1-0 lead. The Trojans would get 2 more before the end of the half thanks to another goal from Lambele and Dean Northover. While similar to the Womens game just hours before, SAIT entirely controlled the time of possession. The Lions tried their best to limit the Trojans opportunities, however SAIT was too good tonight for Ambrose to pose much of a threat. All 6 shots from the Lions (2 on net) were from significant distance to avoid testing SAIT keeper Marko Ilic. Dean Northover would complete his hatrick in the 2nd half, scoring in the 51st minute and 72nd minute, the later coming off of a misplay by Ambrose keeper, handling the ball outside of the box, and the Lions defense being caught off guard on the pending free kick.
While SAIT got the best of Ambrose this evening, the Lions have a chance to redeem their disappointing performance with another chance this Saturday.
